The Amazing Fog Pit Beholder Battle

Hello D&D players!

Today I wanted to show you folks out there this fog pit battle scenerio that I built a few years ago for the final battle of my home D&D game. The story was that the players had been trying to free a powerful extraplanar being from the clutches of a few dozen madmen and creatures, who were all in turn fighting each other to control this extraplanar deity. We called her The Mother but she sometimes appeared to the PCs as young black-haired girl. The Mother was once very strong and in the right hands or wrong hands she could become a powerful weapon again. Among the evil doers seeking to control The Mother was a Warforged Beholder as well as a Beholder Ultimate Tyrant.

Here is how I built this.

Materials / Directions needed:

Mist maker, I used an ultrasonic mist maker. This $30 one from House of Hydro. There are many cheaper options on Amazon, but I went with House of Hydro because their products have much longer lives than the cheap stuff.

Terrain I bought three of these but only used about half of the them because I only needed the edges. I painted them with regular grey primer spray paint from Walmart, then slate black spray paint. Touched up with some dry brushing. Sealed with spray on sealer so the water doesn't take away my dry brushing.

A cheap plywood sheet approximately 1/2 inch thick, and 2x4. I got one at Home Depot for $5 because someone bit it. But something like this. You will need a saw or a powertool to cut a hole in the middle. So it looks like this.

Primer and water seal it with regular cheap spray on primer and spray paint. It will get wet and you don't want it warping on you.

One under bed plastic tub

Three or four of these dollar store tea light holders. For the floating platforms.

Food coloring to turn the water red or black or blue or whatever you want.

Minis to taste!
